Football – Luis Figo withdraws from FIFA Presidential election, slams process
Luis Figo has withdrawn from the FIFA Presidential election.
Figo’s decision follows that of Dutch FA president Michael van Praag, who pulled out of the race and gave his backing to Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan.
“After a personal reflection and sharing views with two other candidates in this process, I believe that what is going to happen on May 29 in Zurich is not a normal electoral act,” he said on his Facebook page.
“And because it is not, don’t count on me.”
Next Friday’s vote is now a head-to-head between current incumbent Sepp Blatter and Prince Ali.
