John Lennon once suggested that The Beatles were bigger than Jesus. But from the looks of things on Saturday, it seems Gerrard-mania is bigger than the Fab Four.
The world of football was going crazy for Steven Gerrard’s final showing for Liverpool at Anfield for hours – and indeed days – before anyone even got to the stadium for the match against Crystal Palace.
The official Liverpool Twitter feed got things going in fine style with this marvellous clip showing what it’ll be like for the 34-year-old as he walks out onto that hallowed turf for a final time:Great stuff. As fans gathered around the stadium, however, the first pictures began to do the rounds of a carnival atmosphere everywhere from Merseyside to, er, Indonesia:
